Chick-Fil-A. Hypocrites and a Youtube Video

Can I just say right here and right now how much I despise hypocrites? I do! We all have our moments I know, but darn....some have more than their share. I had really and truly intended to put this whole Chick-Fil-A thing to bed and leave my last words on it as my last words, but what I am seeing makes that just darn near impossible.

When I made my original post about Chick-Fil-A...it had more to do with free speech than it did with the issue at hand. The issue really should have been free speech but it turned into a big debate about my personal views on the issue of gay marriage. As someone succinctly put it...my views amount to very little as I would not jump parties to vote for one issue, so my view point and a quarter won't buy you a cup of coffee, nor do anything for the cause at election time.YES I vote!

The issue at hand was free speech and the lines you saw at Chick-Fil-A's all over the country yesterday....I believe were in support of just this. YES people....get used to it. This country is still a faith based country full of Christians who believe in God, His word and the bible. As much as that is a fact...there is also the fact that people are realizing that in the last four years our freedoms are slowly being taken away. Perhaps the belief is that if they are taken in small pieces we will never notice. The few are trying to control the many and in some cases it has been successful. Maybe people have been being pushed towards a breaking point and this was it. Maybe also, when Mr. Cathy spoke up and spoke out about his beliefs (as he had the right to do in this country) and their was such outrage (at least the media told us there was) that he had done so, the many decided that they were tired of being told expressing an opinion different than the opinion of the few was wrong.

Does anyone else see the hypocrisy of the left running a muck here? The left claim to be a people of tolerance and fairness....right up until the time someone disagrees with them. Then they become a people of great intolerance and an unfairness that borders on fascism. What brought this point home so fervently was a video I saw on facebook through youtube. First I will let you watch it and then I will EXPLODE my feelings with all the zeal my 1st Amendment rights allow!!!!

When I watched this video, it literally made me sick. Granted he has the right to free speech as well as Mr. Cathy did but he did not have the right to a) film someone without their consent and b) "try" (I say try because he couldn't have been more unsuccessful) to humiliate and degrade both her and Chick-Fil-A on video.

This young woman handled herself with grace and dignity as Mr. Smith hurled insults about Chick-Fil-A and this woman's job at her. She also told him she was not comfortable with him filming her and yet he continued. He also tried to make her ashamed of working at Chick-Fil-A. REALLY? In this economy anyone who has a job should consider themselves lucky and to try and shame her for doing said job and doing it well.....I would say this gentleman's tactics backfired on him and made him look like the pompous, intolerant as.....er individual that he truly is. If I were him rather than put this on youtube as triumph for whatever cause he thought he was supporting by acting in such a shameful way, he should have tucked tail, erased the tape and realized he only showed how intolerant and uncaring the left really are to those that don't jump on their bandwagon. Lets face it...Mr. Smith couldn't have been a better political tool for the right had he tried. Free speech for all.....except for those that disagree with me! Right?! Perhaps we should all thank Mr. Smith for his ability to show the left as they truly are and not as they try to sell themselves (you know....tolerant and all!)

The bottom line is...whether anyone agreed with Mr. Cathy's beliefs or not....he was entitled to them. In fact if he had wanted to get on the rooftop of Chick-Fil-A and scream his beliefs to anyone listening....he was also entitled to that. As a free country where free thought and speech should be valued above all things....we should have rallied behind Mr. Cathy and supported his ability to think and feel as he does. Instead...the media tried to make it a war and the current administration tried to use it as political tool for the upcoming election. If you were watching the news yesterday.....I think we are all aware of just how badly both the war and upcoming election ploy failed. In fact....if Chick-Fil-A was any indication of how this country is feeling....if I were the current administration....I would be afraid come November! VERY afraid!

Taking away our rights in little pieces. You nailed it girlie. They think we won't notice and if we don't get Obama out of office we won't have any rights left to take. Excellent blog. I love it and this one I really agree with!

It is good to know that your head remains conservative even though your heart may wander. Very good blog and I do wonder if Mr. Smith knows what an ass he looks like?

You couldn't be more wrong. This was about gay marriage and yesterday showed the intolerance of right wing nutbag Christians. You are a bunch of sheep following something so stupid as a breaded chicken maker. Do you not see the ridiculousness of all of this. You talk about free speech but what about equality for all men (and women). In a hyper conservative world equality does not exist. If it is anything different than your white bred, English speaking, holier than though Christian, heterosexual world it is not acceptable. I am afraid you are right. Yesterday was something to be afraid of. Not just afraid but terrified of in the upcoming election. Luckily though the Christian right like to put high carbs, lots of fat and off the chart calories into their system so how much longer can they really last? Just like the dinosaurs they will eventually become extinct.

So well said. What a jerk. And the hate card is beyond old. These jokers need to take their deck and go home.

I think you have now reached greatness as an equal opportunity blogger. You have effectively pissed off both sides in less than one week. Is there an award for such an achievement? Seriously, both sides of your argument brought sound logic and difficult to dispute facts. I love your blogs and the side I am on is yours! Great blog my friend.

Hate and intolerance are not political they are human. That means that both sides have their fair share of both. They always will. I do think this whole matter is a case of free speech and I think although I am very much for gay marriage that the Chickfila owner had the perfect right to speak his mind. I also think people had the right to choose to support him and his restaurant or not support him. What someone did not have the right to do was to humiliate someone doing their job who was nothing but polite to them. Given her apparent age I would say this was a job she needed to likely help support her family. To degrade someone for doing their job the best way they know how and put them in such a horrible position and then put it on youtube in hopes that it would humiliate them is hate at its very finest. Lucky for this young woman karma does exist and I believe good things will come to her. Him not so much.

Equality for All you seem to be a great example of intolerance and hate. Your comment reeked with it. Like most who get their rear ends handed to them so eloquently you resort to name calling and insults. Those with something pertinent to say say it and those without throw insults. Guess we know which one you are. Nice blog Cmom.

The debate about FREE SPEECH is tiring. Do I agree with the speech that comes from the left? Not even remotely. But its their right. Its protected and I will defend their right to their ideas and freedom to express those ideas.

But what I find intolerable is the reaction that comes from the left when someone dares to express a belief or idea that is counter to theirs. Are both sides guilty? Sure. I'll admit I've faltered in debates as well. But the left has taken it to an extreme. Shout downs, insults and threats should have no place in our society. Sadly, its become the norm.

As a society we are faltering. As a nation we are divided along every possible line imaginable. I believe this is intentional. ALL of the leaders of our nation bare responsibility as we should too.

There is reason between the extremes. But are we no longer tolerant of one another to live together on common ground?

The answer to this question is frightening.

Steve and JJ you are both obviously conservative. The intolerance comes when we are no longer a nation of white Christians and you are threatened by that. I think that anyone different than you scares the HELL out of you. Common ground will never be met until the right starts accepting differences instead of fighting them. America is not an exclusive club where only certain people, thoughts and ideas are welcome. America is a melting pot of many different people, cultures, ideas and religions or non-religions. Here is where our problems lie. Right wing conservatives want none of this. You want the status quo from 1950 something instead of the realities of todays world. Newsflash! We no longer live in 1950 something.

EFA America is a melting pot not a dumping pot. All countries have their rules for citizenship but for some reason we as Americans should just accept and foot the bill for those who want to live in our country but not actually become citizens and some not even work but merely live off the tax payers? America was originated because people wanted religious freedom. As of late religious freedom is a joke. If you are a conservative Christian somehow that makes us worthy of hate and ridicule with those that disagree with our beliefs. That is a slap in the face to what this country was founded on. The sad thing is that like Steve said whether he agrees with what you say or not he would defend to the death your right to say it. If yesterdays liberal tweets are any indication of the liberal mind set, most liberals will just wish death on conservatives for our right to free speech. Do you see the difference there?

The comments are as educational and entertaining as the blog.

I think the comments got off track here. The video is the focal point of this video and I think if Chick-fil-a doesn't know it, they have a gem of an employee in that girl who took the abuse. She was the epitome of customer service and if they haven't given her a raise they should. She would make any company proud. As for Mr. Smith? Well he deserves no words but "disgusting" does spring to mind.

Sex, love, rock-n-roll, free speech, freedom of choice, freedom of religion. Just pick a side and stand tall but please, leave my chickfila alone! That food is awesome!

So now all liberals are as tactless and clueless as this jerk? Sounds like you are throwing your own insults there cmom. One stupid individual does not make up a whole party or a whole belief system. We don't all humiliate and strike out when we are not agreed with. I agree this guy was awful but don't make him the posterboy for all things liberal. He was just one jerk and since all liberals aren't cut from the same mold, perhaps an apology is in order.

Anonymous...you are the second one to call me out on the fact that I lumped all liberals into the same group as this guy. (Obviously even some liberals were appalled by his behavior). As I said to the other person maybe that is not fair to judge all liberals by one "jerk" as you called him. The problem is that most liberals like him seem to be the most outspoken of the group so it is hard not to generalize when this is what we see and hear all the time. And not saying that you do it...but the other person that called me out said it was like comparing all conservatives to Fred Phelps. Sadly....alot of libs do compare us all to the likes of Fred Phelps. The funny thing is...if you do your research Phelps and his ilk don't like conservatives anymore than they like anyone else...he is just more outspoken than most. I don't know anyone who is like Fred Phelps and his beliefs are no more in line with conservatives than they are with liberals. So I apologize if you are not like the face of liberalism that is shoved down our throats on a daily basis. My bad!

I think I would call myself a liberal, but I would NEVER act the way the guy in the video did, NOR do I have a problem with anyone standing up for their beliefs.

My problem is lumping people together in groups (liberals or conservatives), because we all know there is a wide range of perspectives on both sides of the fence.

My other problem is anyone on either side of the fence being intolerant of anyone else's beliefs. This is something we see on both sides, so it is unfair to blame one group or the other.

I am not religious and I would not call myself Christian, but I do believe we should treat everyone with respect and kindness. That is what Jesus taught, and it seems a lot of people who call themselves Christians forget this.
